Every now in then in our travels we come across truly special individuals who are impacting others in such unselfish positive ways that it can bring a tear to your eye. Recently, while Kathryn and I were staying at Tigh-Na-Mara Resort Seaside Spa & Conference Centre in Parksville, British Columbia, we chatted over breakfast with Luba Plotnikoff, Tigh Na Mara’s Marketing and Media Relations Manager. Luba described their “Vacay It Forward” program and how and why it was conceived. We share their press release here because we believe this is a very worthy cause and hopefully one that will be adopted in other cities.
The people who deserve a vacation the most are often the very last people who have the opportunity to take one. Now, Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort wants to change all that with the Vacay It Forward Challenge.
“Those of us in the hospitality industry are in the business of creating wonderful experiences for our guests. We also value our special relationships within our communities by supporting a number of different charities. By creating the Vacay It Forward Challenge, Tigh-Na-Mara and our hospitality colleagues can work together to help make a difference and reward those who do so much to make the lives of others better,” says Luba Plotnikoff, Marketing & Media Relations Manager at Tigh-Na-Mara.
The rules of Vacay It Forward are simple. Tigh-Na-Mara is challenging seven hospitality properties to select the charity of their choice, determine a recipient and Vacay It Forward. Every property challenged will be listed on the Vacay It Forward Facebook page www.facebook.com/vacayitforward
To launch Vacay It Forward, Tigh-Na-Mara has selected two charity organizations: Variety – The Children’s Charity, and the Society of Organized Services. Through collaboration with these charities the first two Vacay It Forward recipients have been selected and are: Ani Khoudian from Vancouver, who was recently named the 2015 Variety Parent Champion and received the 46th Variety Annual Heart Award; and Allegra Jenkins of Parksville, a single mother of three young children, who has had to face many obstacles.
“Both of the Vacay It Forward recipients are a true inspiration and it is with great pleasure that we at Tigh-Na-Mara are able to share kindness, take care of all the details so both of these families can take time for themselves, reconnect with each other, and enjoy a vacation on us,” says Tigh-Na-Mara’s General Manager, Paul Drummond.
Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort proudly launches Vacay It Forward and is pleased to announce that the first two properties Challenged have accepted and are: the beautiful Pacific Sands Beach Resort located in Tofino on Vancouver Island and the luxury Painted Boat Resort &
Spa on the Sunshine Coast. Tigh-Na-Mara will Challenge five additional properties with updates listed on www.facebook.com/vacayitforward. “We hope every property challenged will join us on this journey and Vacay It Forward to those who need it most. As an industry with heart, we can make a difference and help to build a mountain of change,” says Plotnikoff and Drummond.
In February 2014, Tigh-Na-Mara was presented with the Humanitarian Award of Excellence from the Hotel Association of Canada. This special award is given in recognition for their generous support of many charitable campaigns and initiatives both financially and through hundreds of volunteer hours.
